Mid-Term Presentation : World Changers
Due Feb 9: Choose a powerful or famous person who has made a positive change in the world
Your Goal: Present a 4-5 minute (PowerPoint or Google Slides or Prezi) presentation about this person.
Content: You must answer the following questions:
  • Who is this person? Tell us a little about this person’s life.
  • How did this person become powerful or influential?
  • What specific positive influence has this person had in the world?

Due Feb 11: Research: Put the web addresses (URL’s) for the following information on one page to turn in
  1. 1. Look up three informational sources about the person you choose. On-line or books in the library.
  2. 2. Find three images of this person. -- Try to use Photos for Class or Pixabay

Due March 8: Slide Presentation: You must create 5-8 slides. Keep them simple, with NO MORE THAN 10-15 words on a slide (except for your sources slide, which is last) . You can use PowerPoint , Prezi or Google Slides . Mail your presentation to me by class time. Mail it to mkehl@ohlone.edu

DUE March 8 : Script : Write down what you will say with each slide. Turn it in on Tuesday.



Due March 10 :Note Cards: Write out notes for your presentation on 5-7 (3X5) notecards. You need to practice your presentation at least 3 times with the cards before you present it to the class. You may NOT just read your whole presentation from the cards; in fact, you will NOT pass this presentation if you read your whole presentation. Use at least 5 new vocabulary words from Unit 1,2, or 3. Underline them on your cards. You will turn in the cards for credit.

Due March 10: Key Words: Choose 10 key words for YOUR presentation. Write them down and practice speaking them. Use the Websters Learner Dictionary or other learner dictionaries to hear how they sound or just ask me. You will have a test on them and will say them for me.

Presentations will start March 15th.

1. ( 5 points) - Topic and Content Did you introduce yourself and cover all of the required points?
  • Who is this person? Tell us a little about this person’s life.
  • How did this person become powerful or influential?
  • What specific positive influence has this person had in the world?
2. (30 points) - Comprehensibility -- How well did the class understand you?
The class could understand 90-100% of what you said = 30 points
80-90% = 25 points
75-80% = 20 points
60-75% = 15 points
less than 60% = 0 points
Did you speak slowly and clearly?
Did you use vocabulary that we could all understand?
Does it seem like you practiced speaking this?
3. (10 points)- Organization
Was the flow of your presentation logical?
Were the transitions smooth or choppy? (In addition, next, also, secondly, moreover…)
4. (15 points) - Grammar – Were the errors in grammar minimal?
5. (25 points) - Eye contact/ Body language/ Time management
Did you look at the audience often enough ? 10 points
Did you use enough hand gestures? 10 points
Did you stay within the time limits? 5 points
6. (15 points) - Slides –
Are the slides easy to understand and colorful?
Are the slides interesting?
Are there too many words? Are the photos clear and interesting ?

One Week after your presentation: Reflection

Write a paragraph of at least 120 words answering questions from the Reflection Worksheet .
